How to Write a Short Film

By the culmination of this creative workshop, you will be efficient in the following:

  • Generating story ideas from scratch
  • Inventing authentic, unique characters and plots
  • Writing a logline and treatment (story outline)
  • Writing a professionally formatted short film in Final Draft
  • Understanding the 5 Basic Elements of Screenplay Format
  • Tips for improving writing and character/plot quality

Course Logistics

Course Requirements:

  1. A working laptop or desktop computer
  2. Final Draft Screenwriting Software (if you don’t have this, you can use Microsoft Word, but all lessons will be taught using Final Draft).
  3. A positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  4. A writing utensil (pencil or pen)
  5. Notebook paper

Course Includes:

  2. Zoom-based writing lectures
  3. Writing Room “Breakout Rooms”
  4. Downloadable Course Schedule
  5. Final Short Film written in Final Draft for Film Festival Submission

Age Requirement – 14 years old and up

Enrollment Number – 8 Individuals

Morality Clause – I welcome all creative ideas but will not allow any of my students to create a short film that involves overly excessive vulgarity or discriminatory remarks about religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

Character Basics, Plot Structure, Logline, Treatment, Tips for Short Film Writing

Week 3

Screenplay Basics, Short Film Structure & Formatting, Final Draft Walk Through, Scriptwriting Exercises

Week 4

Write Your Short Film, Writer’s Room Meet-Up’s, Evaluations of Plot and Characters, Revisions and Rewrites

How to Write a Stage Play

By the end of this workshop, you will be efficient in the following:

  • Creating story ideas that captivate and engage a live audience
  • Mastering the basics of story, narrative, and character development
  • Understanding stage directions and formatting
  • Understanding the different types of playwrighting
  • Avoiding common playwrighting mistakes
  • Writing a complete stage play with a 2-Act Structure

How to Write a TV Pilot Script

By the end of this course, you will be efficient in the following:

  • Developing a strong story concept
  • Structuring/Writing a compelling pilot episode
  • Crafting engaging characters and backstories
  • Writing effective and authentic dialogue
  • Understanding the 5-Act TV structure
  • Understanding the TV business and how to pitch you story idea

  5. Final Draft, or any other free scriptwriting software such as Celtx. You can also opt to use Word.

  1. Electronic TV episode pilot scripts (for reading and formatting purposes)
  2. Zoom-based writing lectures
  3. Writing Room “Breakout Rooms”
  4. Downloadable Course Schedule
